It’s that time of year again. You know the one. It can induce feelings of nostalgia, but for me, this year, it is having the opposite effect. Instead of thinking about the past, I’m thinking about the year ahead. Is there a word for that? Call it “anti-nostalgia.”
Right now is the perfect time to think about the impending year, what you want to accomplish, and who you want to be 12 months from now. Heck, every business is doing just that – aren’t you more important than Target or The New York Times? You betcha.
But to know where you’re going it helps to know where you’ve been. So here’s a quick recap of key events from the recent past of NLS:
Our new EP, More Martian Now Than Man, has landed on Earth (and Mars, of course). It’s available to stream and CD.
Our contest winner is the visual artist Lushia! Thanks so much to all who contributed to our GoFundMe and for helping us make a fun promo for “When I Moved To Mars” and the #allmyfriendsarealiens Challenge.
Now to the future:
This Friday we play our last gig of 2023, at Young Ethel’s in Brooklyn. This will be our 5th gig this year at YE, and they haven’t gotten sick of us yet. Take their word for it and come on out! We’re playing with a few other groups, including The Modern Airline, whose very own Lee Chabowski explained that this will be, undeniably, the last show of the year:
That's right, the very last one of 2023! There won't be any more. How could there be?! We don't have any more shows booked this year, and there will only be 16 days left in the whole year! … I'm not a betting person, but if I were, my money would definitely be on this being the last show of 2023. So don't gamble with rock!… Don't be a fool! It's the No Love Songs Xmas Party! They rock! And so does We3 and Zabgang! You'd have to be completely nuts not to be there, 'cause it's going to be nuts! Nuts!
Our first gig of 2024 will be on Thursday, Jan. 4th at Sleepwalk in Brooklyn. No cover. Music starts at 8pm.
After that, we’re hatching a major plan for world domination in 2024. You won’t want to miss it. To quote Lee, “it’s going to be nuts! Nuts!”
Stay tuned for more on that, and good luck with your own master plans. For now, I will leave you with this video of us getting ready for our show on Friday. Hope to see you there!
